What I Offer

IMG20181120164333.jpg

The hands on, creative learning approach that children love!

Therese's Tutoring offers your child a personalised learning session which runs for 45  minutes in either Maths or Literacy, depending on which class you choose. There may be up to 4 students in your child's session which usually involves an assistant teaching with me.

Your child's first session with me will run for 45. I will assess  your child in your chosen subject area. I will then discuss the assessment with you the following day over the phone and let you know of the outcome. Please note - I am very open and truthful about your child's assessment. I will not sugar-coat anything! In saying this, I will always let your know your child's strengths as well. But to be honest, you are most likely here for 'help'. Most people do not employ a teacher for a child who is not struggling in one way or another.

Maths Assessment

A detailed assessment which will give you an insight into all learning areas of the curriculum. This includes Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability. The assessment allows me to determine your child's strengths and weaknesses, put him/her in the correct class and to consequently fill in any necessary gaps.

Literacy Assessment

A literacy assessment involves reading, spelling and writing to determine which class would best your child. Anecdotal notes are also taken on handwriting.

If you have chosen private sessions for your child, once all issues have been acknowledged, if any, I will develop a program, specifically designed to meet your child's needs. If you have chosen a small group session, your child will be working at the level which suits them best at this point in time. Children work according to their assessment - not their year level at school. I am a very 'paper and pencil' style teacher - and do not use technology unless needed for written research, online dictionaries or further clarification in the form of a visual aid. Some lessons also involve a more creative approach where your child will be making, cutting, creating, baking... whatever it takes and whatever method works best for your child to help them succeed.

Your child may not be struggling at school. Tutoring is also beneficial for your child to get ahead in class and to be continuously stimulated by more complex work.
